The first-ever vehicle testing centre in Meme Division of the South West Region was recently commissioned by Nelson Yongkuma Gamsi, the Second Assistant Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, in the presence of officials of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, PCC.

Nelson Yongkuma Gamsi appreciated the management of Prestech and said motorists from Meme, Ndian, Manyu and Kupe Muanenguba Divisions will no longer have to travel long distances to get their vehicles tested. He promised the collaboration of the Meme administration in ensuring the proper use and management of the centre. The South West Regional Delegate for Transport, Vivanje Ivo, urged the public to ensure that their vehicles are regularly tested so as to ensure safety on roads. He noted the advent of the vehicle-testing centre was a true testimony of the fact that the government and its social partners are waging a fierce war against road accidents.

On his part, the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, the Right Rev. Fonki Samuel Forba, said the centre was his church’s contribution to curb road traffic accidents by ensuring the worthiness of all vehicles. The vehicle testing centre also provides an opportunity for training in the mechanical and automobile industries as well as job creation for youths, he pointed out.

Initially, Prestech was conceived to manufacture and repair basic hospital tools and biomedical devices. As the standards and quality services gained great reputation, the centre attracted the attention of the general public. It is against this historical background that Prestech has grown to the pinnacle of its potentials and the need for a vehicle testing centre became a categorical imperative,” the Moderator explained.
