One week of exhibition to demonstrate their worth ended in Douala Wednesday

The public has been called upon to end stigmatisation and discrimination of any kind and embrace such diversities as skin colour. This in essence was contained in the message of the Head of the Economic, Cultural and Social Affairs in the Littoral Governor’s Office, Yara Samvam, on the occasion of the closing of a one-week activity to commemorate the International Albinism Awareness Day to be celebrated June 13 at the Place du Gouvernement in Bonanjo Wednesday.
Call on all to act as a conduit for accurate and authoritative information about all aspects of living with albinism and to provide a place where people with albinism and their families can find acceptance, support and fellowship.
Associations leading albinism advocacy and promoting the activities of people with albinism held a week of exhibition of their works at the Place du Gouvernement in Bonanjo. Views expressed during the exhibition’s closing highlighted that the Littoral Region like in all other regions of the world, people with albinism face multiple forms of discrimination.
To many with albinism they are still profoundly misunderstood and their physical appearance is often the object of erroneous beliefs and myths influenced by superstition, which foster their marginalisation and social exclusion. Most often various forms of stigma and discrimination are carried out against those with albinism including accusations of witchcraft.
Exhibitions consisted of art works like specially designed clothes, agro-industry and objects made to promote environmental protection, among other things.
